RECRUITMENT & SELECTION: Hiring qualified employees is very crucial and challenging task of HR
to accomplish organization goals. It demands planning of manpower requirement,
designing effective job description, job specification related to job roles,
sourcing applicants, conducting interviews, final closure of right applicant.
All these activities are very challenging as to be completed in given
time-frame and budget. To disburse these tasks efficiently, HR needs to design
result-oriented recruitment strategy so that all hiring efforts can be
accomplished which is managed by HR Generalist in organization.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: Continuous training and development of employees in company is
required for their skills, knowledge enhancement. It is a crucial factor for
effective performance of employees. Identifying training need of employees in
different roles is very important to design training program. Further,
measuring effectiveness of training in terms of improvement in employee’s
performance and increase in profitability of the company is part of Training. HR
Generalist performs these tasks effectively if carrying practical

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: This is again very important function of HR as it helps in hiring and
retaining best talent in any company. Designing effective compensation plan
that includes salary and other benefits in terms of insurance plans, retirement
benefits, allowances, leaves etc. is again challenging task of HR Generalist
and requires deep knowledge of compensation Bench marking, competitor strategy
analysis, market trends etc.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT: To ensure that employee’s performance, they need to understand what is
expected from them in clear measurable terms i.e. KRAs (Key Result areas) and
KPIs (Key performance Indicators) on which their performance is evaluated for
salary increments, promotions, training needs, succession planning etc. in Big organizations, HR
Generalist designs comprehensive performance management system to monitor
and improve employee’s performance in regular interval.

COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT: Handling legal compliance that are necessary for any organization to
abide with state and federal laws like minimum wages act, workman compensation
act, PF, ESI, Bonus act etc. In absence of right dealing of these not only can impose
heavy penalty on organization but also it can harm rights of employees. So, organizations hire HR Generalist who is well qualified and has very good
knowledge of employee laws. Who can create policies; process related to these
laws and also can communicate these policies to employees effectively.

EMPLOYEE WELFARE AND SAFETY: Handling
employee relations is a very sensitive area and require excellent interpersonal
skills, effective counseling as well. HR Generalist is supposed to
handle and sort out Grievances in organisation, counsel employees for any
personal or professional issues, take care of their safety in complex working
conditions i.e. in mines, factories, chemical drugs etc.

So, HR Generalist is the most demanding role
in HR as all HR functions revolves around this role. To perform above

non-technical skills like Interpersonal skills, communication skills,
analytical skills, leadership skills etc. Organizations prefer candidates for HR
Generalist role having well education in terms of Degree or
